The profit target
How the target is measured, why it is closed balance, and how to approach it calmly.
Each evaluation phase has a profit target, a percentage of the initial balance:
| Program | Phase | Target |
|---|---|---|
| 2-Step | Challenge | 10% |
| 2-Step | Verification | 5% |
| 1-Step | Challenge | 10% |
| Instant | Funded | No target |
On a $100,000 2-Step Challenge, you pass the target when your closed balance reaches $110,000.
Closed balance, flat account
The target is measured on closed results, and the account must have no open positions. A floating gain of $11,000 does not pass the phase until those trades are closed. This makes passing a deliberate act: you close the trades that got you there.
Passing also needs the other objectives
The phase completes only when every objective is met at the same time: target reached, minimum trading days done, no limit breached, and, on the 1-Step, the consistency rule satisfied.
Approaching the target
- No deadline. Most programs have no time limit, so there is no reason to rush the last 1%.
- Do not increase size near the finish. The last few hundred dollars are when traders breach accounts by pushing.
- Plan the final trade. If you are 0.5% away, a normal-sized trade with a normal target will do it.
